The Health Secretary agreed to the first interview on ITV Good Morning Britain after 201 days of the Government’s boycott of the programme. Mr Hancock was grilled by host Piers Morgan on his failures during the coronavirus pandemic. Mr Morgan blasted the Health Secretary over the Government’s failure to close the country’s borders at the beginning of the pandemic when other countries across the world were already banning people from travelling.
The host blasted it was “utter lunacy” Britain decided to close its borders only six months from the start of the pandemic.
Mr Morgan suggested that was the reason the UK now has the “worst death toll in Europe”.
The Health Secretary attempted to defend himself by arguing the Government implemented quarantine measures on people travelling to the UK.
But the ITV host was prompt to point out such measures were only introduced six months after the start of the pandemic.
