Was 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Renewed for Season 2?

While Bravo has not issued an official statement, Colin Macy-O’Toole from Below Deck Mediterranean spilled a little tea about the fate of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

The show’s breezy first season received mixed reviews as it took several episodes for viewers to warm up to the new cast. However, fans appear to be eagerly anticipating another season. “Managed to watch the entire season of below deck sailing yacht in 3 days…where’s season 2??” one person recently tweeted.

Macy-O’Toole may have the insider word on a second season. “What I’ve heard is [Below Deck] Sailing [Yacht] should be leaving in like two weeks,” Macy-O’Toole dished exclusively with Showbiz Cheat Sheet in July. “I can’t tell you where but that’s what I heard.”

COVID delayed ‘Below Deck’ productions

The pandemic re-arranged production schedules for nearly every entertainment film and series. Some series like Netflix’s Queer Eye put a pin in filming, waiting for the pandemic to end. But Bravo pushed forward with their Housewives franchise, Southern Charm, Million Dollar Listing, and Below Deck.

Macy-O’Toole shared what he heard within the Bravo rumor mill about the franchise this year. “And I’m assuming [Below Deck] Med will be able to leave when they leave in September,” he suggested. “I believe Sailing was a little delayed because they film in May. So it’ll be in July and August.”

Below Deck Season 8 is currently playing out as viewers watch the pandemic creep closer like a serial killer stalking its prey. Each episode is timestamped and crew members are beginning to realize the pandemic is going to be extremely serious. Season 8 was also rumored to have been cut short due to the pandemic.

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ ratings were strong enough for a return

Despite the ratings being lower than Below Deck and Below Deck Med, Below Deck Sailing Yacht‘s ratings were strong, especially for a freshman series. Season 1 averaged about 1.160 million live viewers per episode. For context, another freshman series, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City has yet to get close to the 1 million live viewer mark.

Casting for season 2 is a little murkier. However, one cast member almost certainly won’t return. Chef Adam Glick made it pretty clear he was either finished with yachting or Below Deck altogether.

“It’s pretty clear I have an attitude while I’m working on this incredibly stressful charter yacht,” he said during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. ‘With having a girlfriend that I made very clear I didn’t want this deep relationship early on during a peak season.”

“I think that the learned lessons for me, in the long run, is that after 12 years living and working on the open ocean, I’m f**king over it. I’m ready to have a ranch, I’m ready to live my life on land and grow a beautiful garden,” he added. “And do the things that I want to do, like feed people organically over a fire. And none of those things can I do on a boat.”
