Virgin River season three premiered on July 9, once again picking up with Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) rollercoaster romance. There was only a seven-month wait between Netflix’s seasons two and three, meaning fans are hoping season four is just around the corner. Yet, the wait could be longer this time around.
When is Virgin River season 4 coming out?
Since Netflix dropped the third season, viewers have been hoping the fourth season would be confirmed immediately.
However, the streaming service still hasn’t confirmed Virgin River has been officially renewed, let alone confirmed a release date for season four.
Currently, there is no official premiere date for the fourth season, but that is not unusual for Netflix to do.
Typically, the streaming platform waits at least a few months before confirming the return of a series.
However, it has nearly been three months since the third season dropped, causing some concern from fans.
However, rest assured, it is very likely Netflix will confirm the renewal soon, especially considering the popularity of the show.
When season three first aired, it raced to the top of the most-watched charts on Netflix almost immediately, solidifying its status as one of the platform’s most popular series.
There is also the fact Virgin River is based on Robyn Carr’s original novels, of which there are 22 instalments.
The bulk of the story still hasn’t been told in the Netflix series, so there is plenty of material left to pull from.
What happened at the end of Virgin River season 3?
The majority of the storyline throughout the third season concerned who shot Jack at the end of season two.
However, that plot thread was never fully resolved, with showrunner Sue Tenney telling Entertainment Weekly that “the story is not over with the arrest” at the end of season three.
Henderson, also told Entertainment Weekly: “[The writers] toyed with the idea of revealing that in season three.
“There were drafts where we were going to actually get a little more information, and you would find more out.
“But for a bunch of reasons, they decided to extend that. So that can be dragged out a little bit.”
It was Brady (Ben Hollingworth) who was arrested at the end of season three, follow Jack remembering he stopped by his bar.
Brady’s arrest shocked fans, especially since he’d tried his best to get his life on the straight and narrow and turned his back on local drug kingpin, Calvin (David Cubitt).
Viewers have also pointed out Brady’s former friendship with Jack, something which will likely come up in season four.
It seems then that a new suspect will arise during the fourth season, but at the moment it could be anyone’s goes who that could be.
It is hard to judge when the fourth season will be released, if confirmed, considering the sporadic release dates of the first three seasons.
Summer 2022 seems like the most likely candidate for a premiere, though it could be late 2022 if Netflix doesn’t confirm it soon.
Fans will have to wait and see about the future of Virgin River, though it is incredibly likely more is to come for the franchise.
Virgin River seasons 1-3 are available to watch exclusively on Netflix.
