BASTILLE frontman Dan Smith is feeling extra festive this year – for one reason only.
But what is there to know about the man with the golden voice who has just taken part in the biggest Xmas ad of 2019. Here's what we know…
Who is Dan Smith? What is his background?
Dan, 32, was born July 14, 1986 – the same day as the French storming of the Bastille and the inspiration behind the band's name.
The singer-songwriter was born to South African parents in London, where he was raised before studying English Language and Literature at Leeds University.
Bastille formed in 2010 and gained mass popularity in 2013 when the song Pompeii was released.
The band released their second album, Wild World, in September 2016, which reached No1 as did their first, Bad Blood.
In 2014 Dan took part in Band Aid charity single Do They Know It's Christmas as well as the 2017 Grenfell charity song Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Does he sing in this year's John Lewis Christmas advert?
Yes! Dan took on the highly sought-after role of singing this year's John Lewis and Waitrose Christmas advert song.
The song is a cover of 80s classic "Can't fight this feeling" by REO Speedwagon.
The track is set to be released next week.
Dan Smith, 33, lead singer of the rock band Bastille said; “It’s so great for us to be asked to be part of this year’s John Lewis Christmas ad.
"As a band we’ve always had a lot of fun putting a twist on classic songs, and it’s been so good to be a part of this orchestral version of an eighties classic."
What are Bastille's biggest hits?
Here are the band's hit tunes:
- Good Grief
- Things We Lost In the Fire
- Of The Night
- Laura Palmer
- Bad Blood
- I Know You (with Craig David)
- Happier (with Marshmello)
