Family ditch £18k dream holiday after 24-hour party takes over hotel

A family hot-footed it out of a luxury hotel when they realised a non-stop "Ibiza style" party was being hosted at the premises, despite the holiday provider not warning them about it.

Kerry Cox, her husband and two children had been looking forward to being pampered through the Diamond Club package at the Royalton Hotel in Antigua, which they forked out £18k on.

However, the family soon found out the hard way that an adults-only 24-hour party would be taking over the entire hotel complex in the middle of their stay.

And Kerry said Virgin Holidays hadn't told them of the event, which includes a foam and paint pool party, neon swimwear bash and a string of DJs.

The mum-of-two was furious that her children, 10 and 16, would be surrounded by drinking and partying adults, a far cry from the idyllic getaway she had envisioned.

"The party is 24 hours a day, so even if we were out in the day we would be coming back to the evening parties," Kerry, from Kettering, Northamptonshire told the Mirror.

"I have two children. You come on a family holiday and expect a family resort.

"An Ibiza style neon beach party and foam party is not what I booked for a family resort.

"It's my job as a mother to protect my children. With parties planned for every location in the hotel, on the beach and at the pool, where can I take my family?"

Kerry contacted both the in-hotel reps and Virgin customer helpline in the UK, unhappy with their suggestion that the family go on day trips to get away from the party.

After much back and forth, the Coxes moved to a nearby hotel, having turned down another option because it has stairs and Kerry's husband has a heart condition.

Kerry said that when they arrived at the hotel which was supposed to be "like-for-like" they were met by a "rodent-infested" room.

"Upon arrival it was horrific, and our room was rodent infested, with rodent faeces in the room.

"I expected like for like, but it was disgusting."

The family moved back to the Royalton Hotel for a night before Virgin moved them on to the Blue Water Bay, Kerry said.

While the mum said this was not her first choice of hotel and they feel let down by Virgin, they plan to stay there for the remainder of their holiday.

A spokesperson for Virgin Holidays apologised to the family and added that they have been in touch "to ensure they enjoy the remainder of their holiday."
