A teacher and water polo coach is being held on suspicion of indecent behaviour with an underage boy in what is the second sex scandal to hit the same school in just a few years.
Amanda Quinonez, 30, who was arrested on Tuesday, is an English-language arts teacher as well as a swimming and water polo coach at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in East Vale, California.
Cops nicked her following reports that she had committed “lewd acts” with the student, reports the Daily Mail.
Their investigation found that one student was involved, and he’d been sent “explicit” photos of a “sexual nature” by the teacher.
The school has remained tight-lipped about Quinonez’s employment status following her arrest, although she is still listed in the school's staff directory.
It wasn’t immediately clear how long she had been coach at the school or whether the alleged victim was part of the team.
The school has both a boys' and girls' water polo team. Its website doesn’t list Quinonez as a coach of either of the teams or of the swimming teams, but a school newspaper from back in 2018 listed her as the junior varsity/freshman boys' coach.

School head Greg Anderson, who has been in the post since last year, said that both Eleanor Roosevelt High and the wider school district had zero-tolerance for any behaviour that endangers students.
Quinonez is being held at the Robert Presley Detention Centre in Riverside.
It’s the second time in recent years that the school in southern California has been rocked by allegations of sexual misconduct by a teacher and coach.
Three years ago, Joe Robles Jr, who was at the time a 36-year-old athletics coach, was charged with a string of offences against four female students at the school between 2014 and 2017, reported NBC Los Angeles.
He was subsequently convicted on multiple counts for his crimes.
