A Florida man who shot and wounded a St. Petersburg cop during a shootout Wednesday was killed when he was hit by 38 rounds.

Dominique Harris, 20, who was “a person of interest” in a 2019 murder, got into a dramatic, caught-on-video gunfight with police outside a convenience store, with cops firing 50 shots in the exchange, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualitieri said Harris fired first, shooting at cops “at least four times” with a semi-automatic handgun after he tried to ram a roadblock — hitting one officer.

Police said he was being sought on a child abuse charge, the Times said.

The cops returned fire, hitting Harris with a barrage of bullets, fatally wounding him.

Gualitieri said there were six officers involved, five of them undercover cops.

The wounded officer, who was not identified, was shot twice in the torso and was in stable condition after undergoing surgery, authorities said.

St. Petersburgh Police Chief Anthony Holloway urged residents to remain calm and to “wait for the facts to come out.”

Departments nationwide this year have faced backlash and massive protests over police brutality allegations following the May 25 police-custody death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“The use of deadly force task force was formed so we can show that we’re being very transparent and we’re accountable to the citizens of St. Petersburg,” Holloway said.

“The sheriff and the task force, and the State Attorney’s Office, will investigate the criminal matter involved in the shooting with Mr. Harris yesterday.”
