Sunseekers are set to go barbecue bonkers this weekend as a sizzling “Beauty From The East” weather front hits the UK.
Temperatures will nudge 27C as the 200-mile-wide hot air plume makes the country hotter than Malibu.
The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze predicted it will be a “BBQ autumn weekend”.
He said: “Easterly winds are bringing a ‘Beauty From The East’ rather than a ‘Beast From The East.’ Easterlies bring winter’s coldest weather, but are bringing warm air this time due to heat over Holland and Germany.’’
Supermarkets were braced for a rush as people enjoy one last sunny spell before rain hits.
Tesco is set to sell 300,000 packs of sausages, 250,000 ice creams and lollies and two million bottles of beer.
Despite regional coronavirus lockdowns, tourism chiefs expect beaches to be busy.
Thousands are expected to rush to the coast to catch some of the last days of the proper heat this year as the Indian summer continues.
Brighton is set for 50,000 visitors and Bournemouth another 25,000.
Coastal routes including the A31 to Dorset and A30 to Cornwall are likely to be jammed.
Police will be out in force to ensure people comply with social distancing. Kent’s Assistant Chief Constable Claire Nix said: “There will be an increased presence in key locations around the county to ensure the current national advice is adhered to.”
The Met Office forecasts temperatures of 25C today and 26C tomorrow.
That is 7C above average and hotter than Malibu in California – although 27C is not out of the question.
Monday will stay hot before temperatures drop on Tuesday and rain arrives later in the week.
Forecaster John Hammond, of weathertrending.com, said: “The weekend looks very nice indeed and will feel pleasantly warm, even in the north and Scotland.
“But enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, as big changes are ahead, with rain by midweek.’’
