How can I get paid $20 by Kraft?

The Kraft Heinz company is responsible for producing Philadelphia cream cheese, one of the nation's most popular schmears.

In lieu of the cream cheese shortage, the Kraft Heinz company is offering money to those who opt out of buying the spread.

Select customers will earn a $20 gift certificate for dessert this holiday season.

In a statement given out on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, Kraft announced the first 18,000 people to reserve a spot on a virtual waiting list will be reimbursed for any dessert they buy instead of cheesecake with proof of receipt between December 17 and 24.

Those who are able to reserve a spot will be gifted $20 between December 28 and January 4, as long as they have received a unique link from Kraft.

"You may not be able to find Philly to make a cheesecake. So get any other dessert on us," the Spread The Feeling website states.

To sign up for a reservation, users can access the website on December 17 and 18 starting at 12pm ET. On Thursday, 10,000 spots will be available, with the additional 8,000 opening on Friday.

Why is there a cream cheese shortage?

The coronavirus pandemic caused many manufacturers to halt production as a way to enforce safety precautions and social distancing measures throughout 2020.

However, with the onset of new variants of the disease and vaccine protocols, things have not yet returned to normal.

Shortages of packaging materials, ocean freight, port congestion, and rail issues are all affecting global supply chains.

"We allowed supply chains to get away without having contingencies in place, resiliencies in place, and other measures to ensure humanity would never be subjected to this," said Nick Vyas, the director of the Global Supply Chain Institute at the University of Southern California, according to Vox.

With consumers being urged to shop less, the supply chain may return to normal at some point in the upcoming year.

Bagel shops in New York City are experiencing the downfalls of the cream cheese shortage, as well as cheesecake company Junior's.
