Kate Middleton ‘never wanted fame’ and would be happy with family life, says pal

The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, only ever wanted a quiet life in the country surrounded by kids, dogs and an AGA, according to a family friend of the royal.

Fate got in the way and her dreams of having a home similar to the one she grew up in rural Berkshire were swapped for time split between Kensington Palace and Norfolk's Anmer Hall.

The news comes as an endearing contrast with the ultra-famous and glamorous Duchess visible today who is now a mainstay of the Royal family and an established face in the next generation of the monarchy.

Speaking to Royal expert Emily Andrews for the Sun, the family friend said: "All Catherine ever wanted was a house in the countryside, loads of kids, dogs and an AGA. She wasn’t interested in having a big job or becoming famous."

“Family life is incredibly important to her, and motherhood has been the making of her.

“Now that she feels she’s achieved that, there’s time to turn to her public role and what she wants to achieve there.”

Her road to being such an important member of the family hasn't been without its hiccups, with nervous moments in speeches and topless beach image scandals, but these now appear to have been overcome.

In 2016 she was instrumental in the Heads Together campaign which aimed to tackle the stigma around mental health while various media appearances have helped create a softer image of a future Queen.

A clear picture of the girl who just wanted a wholesome family life, the AGA and the dogs was publically seen in 2019 when she appeared up close and personally with Dame Mary Berry in a Royal Christmas.

In the programme, she was seen laughing and enjoying herself as she baked and discussed her children and the charities she cares about.

Mary Berry said: "She’s confident and she’s giggly and says: ‘I don’t think I can’, but she does.

“I remember we were down at RHS Garden Wisley. She was piping cupcakes and they were just… if not better than mine, they were beautiful – and she was laughing away and enjoying it. I think she’s a great person, she’ll have a go at anything.”
