Man is Tasered by police after hitting a female officer in the face and wrestling her colleague to the floor in Wolverhampton

This is the shocking moment a man gets Tasered after allegedly hitting a female police officer in the face and wrestling a policeman to the ground while resisting arrest. 

Dale Byrne, 42, was charged with two counts of theft from a shop, two counts of burglary and two counts of assault of a police officer. 

Byrne allegedly threatened a Costcutter shopkeeper with a screwdriver on Penn Road in Wolverhampton.

The officers arrived at around 8.30pm yesterday only to find out Byrne and his accomplice had moved from Costcutter and were allegedly trying to steal alcohol from the Strictly Liquor store across the road. 

Footage shows the moments the female and male officer try to arrest the two men outside the second shop.

Byrne punches the female officer in the face before wrestling the second officer to the floor and pummelling him. 

But the female officer manages to get to her feet and Taser Byrne before he falls to the floor and gets put in handcuffs.

West Midlands Police say the male officer suffered cuts to his arms, legs and face, with the female officer left with bruising and swelling 

Footage shows a second man being arrested at the kerbside moments later.

The shopkeepers in both stores were unharmed and the screwdriver was recovered.

According to the Birmingham Mail a West Midlands police spokesman said: ‘Police were called after a shopkeeper was threatened with a screwdriver during an attempted robbery at Costcutter, Penn Road, Wolverhampton, around 8.30pm yesterday.

‘Officers arrived at the scene and discovered two men who appeared to be trying to steal alcohol from the nearby Strictly Liquor store.

‘Two officers were assaulted, causing minor injuries, and a 42-year-old man was Tasered and detained.’

‘The 53-year-old man who was arrested has been bailed under investigation until 27 June.

Mr Byrne was due to appear at Walsall & Aldridge Magistrates’ Court this morning.
