Meghan Markle returning to UK for final royal farewell with Prince Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set to carry out more engagements in a final royal farewell to the UK, Daily Star Online can reveal.

The Duchess of Sussex flew back to Canada after she and Prince Harry dropped the bombshell a fortnight ago they were quitting the Royal Family.

Harry and Meghan, who will give up their HRH titles and public funding as a result, will officially walk away from their senior roles in Spring following a "transition period".

But before then a royal insider has told Daily Star Online the couple will carry out further engagements on behalf of the monarchy.

  • Meghan and Harry 'threatened by Royal aides and told to change Sussex Royal brand'

The source tells us the engagements will be announced by Buckingham Palace, despite Meghan and Harry’s diaries currently being empty.

There are no details on when or what those engagements will be, with the insider only confirming: “There will be more engagements between now and Spring.”

It comes after Harry made a surprise royal appearance at the UK Africa Investment summit in London today, where he privately met Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The appearance was suspected to be Harry’s last engagement before quitting as a working royal, but Daily Star Online now understands otherwise.

The engagement came hours after Harry last night insisted he and Meghan are “not walking away” but that they had “no other option” but to quit.

In a speech to supporters of his Sentebale charity at a dinner in London on Sunday evening, he said: “Before I begin, I must say that I can only imagine what you may have heard or perhaps read over the last few weeks.

“So, I want you to hear the truth from me, as much as I can share – not as a Prince, or a Duke, but as Harry, the same person that many of you have watched grow up over the last 35 years – but with a clearer perspective.

“The UK is my home and a place that I love. That will never change.

“I have grown up feeling support from so many of you, and I watched as you welcomed Meghan with open arms as you saw me find the love and happiness that I had hoped for all my life.

“Finally, the second son of Diana got hitched, hurray!’

He added: “The decision that I have made for my wife and I to step back, is not one I made lightly. It was so many months of talks after so many years of challenges.

“And I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes, there really was no other option.

“What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you.

“Our hope was to continue serving the Queen, the commonwealth, and my military associations, but without public funding.

“Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible. I’ve accepted this, knowing that it doesn’t change who I am or how committed I am.

‘But I hope that helps you understand what it had to come to, that I would step my family back from all I have ever known, to take a step forward into what I hope can be a more peaceful life.”

Following Harry’s emotional speech, reports emerged today that Prince Charles is set to fund Harry and Meghan’s first year away from the Royal Family.

Royal aides have apparently warned that the financial support from Charles’ own pocket won’t be bottomless, though, and that it will be reviewed in a year.

Experts have predicted Harry and Meghan will earn millions in TV and film projects through their Sussex Royal brand, now that the pair will no longer receive taxpayers’ money.

Meghan and Archie currently remain in Canada where the Sussexes are planning to set up a new home, and it is not yet known when Harry will reunite with them.
