People hoping to track Santa Claus' journey around the globe have been left bitterly disappointed as NORAD appears to be down.

The NORAD Santa Tracker, which gives viewers a display of where in the world Father Christmas is, shows instead a blank screen leaving those across the globe disappointed.

Users of the NORAD tracker have flocked to the social media pages that announced Santa Claus had set off on his journey, disappointed by the lack of visuals.

The official NORAD tracker had posted to Instagram with the caption: "Santa has just flown over Wake Island! He's just getting started!".

One upset Santa-tracking fan took to Twitter with their disappointment, writing: "NORAD Santa Tracker is down! This is devastating news."

Users of the site were left furious with the lack of tracking from the NORAD site, which appears to have crashed after people flocked to the stream.

One user wrote: "Like seriously do they not know its not working right now."

It comes as Daily Star previously reported on the potential banning of the NORAD Santa tracker on Twitter, as Elon Musk suspended an account tracking his jet co-ordinates.

Musk had previously stated: "Any account doxxing real-time location info of anyone will be suspended, as it is a physical safety violation."

NORAD Santa tracker is yet to showcase the location of the festive gift-giver, with the website crashing and showing a blank screen where the GPS tracker map should be.

According to experts at NORAD, Santa visits the South Pacific first, moving on to deliver presents in New Zealand and Australia.

NORAD's website reads: "Santa’s route can be affected by weather, so it’s really unpredictable. NORAD coordinates with Santa’s Elf launch staff to confirm his launch time, but from that point on, Santa calls the shots. We just track him!"
