This is the bizarre moment a parachutist landed in the middle of a football pitch during a match in Poland.

Video shows the man, who was wearing a black and green jumpsuit, flying across the pitch at speed before landing on the half-way line.

The astonished players from Olimpia Elbag and PISA Primavera Barczewo stopped their fifth-tier match and the referee saw the funny side by showing the parachutist a yellow card.

As the PISA Primavera Barczewo players were on the offensive and moving up the pitch in Elblag on Saturday, the airborne invader made an unexpected appearance – and nearly flew into an Olimpia Elbag player.

The players scurried out of the way and the football commentator began laughing at the bizarre situation.

The parachutist reacted calmly – despite landing at speed – and stood by his chute before the referee came over to give him a yellow card much to the amusement of the crowd.

A man then rushed onto the pitch and helped the parachutist gather his chute before the pair walked off the pitch.

GoPro footage from the parachutist shows him coming into land to what appears to be a meadow area – but the football pitch comes into view. Before he is able to change direction, he quickly descends onto the pitch, causing one player to quickly move away.

Social media users have reacted to the interruption with some saying that the parachutists deserved a red card instead.

‘Now I’ve seen it, yellow seems fair,’ a user said. ‘Gotta speed up these var decisions though.’

Another said: ‘That’s as clear a (sky)dive as any. Deserved a red.’

And this is not the only time a parachutist has interrupted a sports match.

In the UK in 2015, Salisbury City and Chester FC players were left to watch in astonishment as an parachutist touched down on the pitch in the second half.

He then calmly packed up his chute and walked off to applause from the 1,000 fans inside the Raymond McEnhill Stadium.

Former Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham said at the time it was one of the strangest things he had seen in his long career.

‘The most bizarre thing I have ever seen on a football pitch happened today,’ he said on Twitter.

‘Half way through the second half out of nowhere a parachutist landed on the pitch. No idea where he was supposed to land but he hit the ground hard. #bizarre.’

Parachutists have interrupted sporting contests before, most famously during a heavyweight boxing clash between Riddick Bowe and Evander Holyfield in 1993.

His arrival was less popular though as he was set upon by members of the audience in Las Vegas.

A parachutist died in 2008 when he crash-landed in the stadium before an under-18 international between France and Ukraine in Orleans.
