Sex fiend teacher ran theatre group to rape one girl and sexually abuse others

A drama teacher exploited young girls hopeful of becoming famous actresses during auditions for sick sexual favours, police have said.

Christopher Lynch, 38, led a Northamptonshire theatre group where talented teenage girls hoped to become stars.

But he took advantage of his power to abuse youngsters at the school, police have said jurors were told.

Lynch was found guilty of eleven sexual offences yesterday, (Wednesday, September 9), and will serve a lengthy jail term.

The depraved pervert conducted his reign of abuse against several girls over a five-year period, police say Northampton Crown Court was told.

All of Lynch's vulnerable young victims were aged between just 15 and 19.

Lynch used the amateur dramatics company he ran as an opportunity to target vulnerable young girls who wanted to be actresses.

One-to-one auditions took place in private rooms in a church, a youth centre and at his own home.

The abuse came as the girls "pursued their dreams", with Lynch telling them it would help their careers if he was allowed to have his way.

Lynch avoided having others present so he could ensure he was alone with his victims when he sexually assaulted them and raped one victim.

Before one vile sex attack, the paedophile visited a girl's home to discuss a play and sexually assaulted her, police say the court heard.

According to police, the abuse only came to light months or years later when victims mentioned what had happened to either friends, family or professionals months or years later.

Lynch was found guilty of one count of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and four counts of sexual activity with a child following a ten-day trial.

He was also found guilty of two charges of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one of facilitating and commissioning a child sex offence.

According to police, he was found not guilty of one count of sexual assault.

The twisted teacher, of Kettering, will be sentenced on November 15, and has been remanded in custody before the next hearing.

Laura Mannion, a cop in Northamptonshire Police's Child Protection Team, said she was happy with the verdict.

Detective Constable Mannion said: "This has been a lengthy and complex investigation, which wouldn't have been possible without the bravery and determination of all the victims and witnesses to bring this man to justice.

"They never wavered in their support for the investigation, and each one faced their fear and gave evidence against him, as he made them endure a trial, trying to maintain his innocence with a web of lies.

"Lynch was in a position of trust. He set up a theatre company so he had opportunities to prey on young females."

She added: "I hope today's result allows them some sense of closure so they can begin to move on with their lives, ones that have undoubtedly been put on hold during this investigation.

"I also hope others reading this who have been in similar situations will be encouraged by this to come forward and report crimes of this nature to the police."
