Suzanne Morphew news – Husband Barry charged with murder as cops plan no more arrests in case of missing Colorado mom

COLORADO police have arrested Suzanne Morphew's husband Barry Morphew and have charged him with first-degree murder in her disappearance.

Barry Morphew was charged on Wednesday with first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and attempt to influence a public servant, Fox reports.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced they arrested Barry and charged him with the death of his wife. They have said no other arrests will be made.

Suzanne Morphew, 49, was reported missing by her neighbor on Mother's Day last May 10.

She reportedly left her home on a solo bike ride and never returned, with police finding her bike less than a mile away from their Maysville home.

    POLICE CONFIRM THEY BELIEVE SUZANNE NO LONGER ALIVE

    During a press conference on Wednesday after announcing the arrest and first-degree murder charges place on Barry Morphew, Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said authorities no longer believe Suzanne is alive.

    During the press conference, Spezze described her as "very easy to like," and someone who was "cherished by her closest friends."

    She was reported missing by a neighbor last Mother's Day on May 10, 2020, after she took a solo bike ride never to return.

    Her bike was found less than half a mile away from the Maysville, Colorado home she shared with Barry.

    She has not been found.

    BARRY SOLD HIS AND HIS WIFE'S HOME WEEKS BEFORE ARREST

    Suzanne Morphew's husband Barry apparently sold their home weeks before he was arrested and charged with first degree murder in his wife's disappearance.

    Barry sold the couple's Maysville home in early March for a whopping $1,625,000 after listing it on the market for $1,759,000.

    The Morphews bought the home in April 2018 for $1,575,000.

    Barry also sold another property in Salida, Colorado at a loss of $15,000.

    He purchased a 2-acre vacant lot Longhorn Ranch Subdivision in June 2020 for $165,000 and then sold the property in February of this year for $150,000.

    OVER 70 INVESTIGATORS LED TO BARRY'S ARREST

    Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said during a press conference on Wednesday that Barry Morphew's arrest comes after a nearly-year-old investigation conducted by a wide team of investigators.

    More than 70 investigators working with the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, and a number of other local enforcement agencies have led Barry's arrest today.

    The team executed more than 135 search warrants throughout the state, interviewed more than 400 people and investigated more than 1,400 tips, he said.

    Spezze said they are still searching for Suzanne's body.

    Their findings were delivered to the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in April, with District Attorney Linda Stanley said she is “confident” in the charges made against Barry Morphew.

    She didn't say what led to his arrest or a possible cause of death for Suzanne.

    BARRY BOOKED INTO COUNTY JAIL ON WEDNESDAY

    Barry Morphew was arrested and booked into Chaffee County jail on Wednesday after police have charged him with first degree murder in the disappearance and likely death of wife Suzanne Morphew.

    His arrest comes almost a year after Suzanne's disappearance as she went for a solo bike ride on Mother's Day on May 10, 2020.

    Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze said during a press conference on Wednesday that his arrest comes after an extensive yearlong investigation into her disappearance.

    “Today is not the day for celebration, nor does it mark the end of this investigation. Rather it’s a next step in this very difficult but very important journey as we seek justice for Suzanne and her family,” Spezze said.

    BARRY MORPHEW CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER

    At a press conference in Colorado, Chaffee County police have announced they have arrested and charged Barry Morphew with first-degree murder in the disappearance and probable death of wife Suzanne.

    “Today is a good day for Suzanne. As far as I’m concerned this day is all about Suzanne, and her family, and those who loved and cared for her,” said 11th Judicial District Attorney Linda Stanley.

    “Our belief is that Suzanne is not alive at this time,” said Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze.

    He also said no more arrests are expected at this time.

    SUZANNE MORPHEW WAS "SCARED" OF HUSBAND BARRY

    A former employee of Barry Morphew said Suzanne had reason to fear her husband, whom she never "want[ed] to see him again, ever again."

    Suzanne was reportedly said to be "scared of him," the employee said, adding to Suzanne's brother Andrew Moorman's comments regarding his sister.

    "I don't think she was taken to a second location, I think it happened at home," Moorman told Dr. Phil.

    He told Dr Phil that he believed his sister was "abducted, and in this case, murdered." 

    Andrew claimed he thought Barry was guilty "based on the behaviors and things that happened" but that he would "pray it's not."
