A young man has been arrested after his girlfriend was brutally killed inside their apartment on Christmas Eve.
Saul Nava was arrested on suspicion of murder, mayhem and torture in connection to the death of his 24-year-old girlfriend just one day before Christmas.
The 21-year-old was taken into custody after Ventura County police were called to their apartment complex in California shortly after 1 am.
The victim was found unresponsive with “significant injuries throughout her body,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Lohman.
Despite emergency services best efforts the 24-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, reports LA Times.
Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement that her death was a tragic result of domestic violence.
Authorities have revealed that investigators discovered evidence that showed the victim has been tortured before she was murdered.
Nava is being held at Ventura County jail on suspicion of three felony charges instead of a $2-million bail, jail records show.
It has been reported that his arraignment is set to take place on December 28.
The police statement read: "On December 24, 2021, at around 1:18am, Thousand Oaks deputies responded to an emergency call in the 600 Block of McCloud Avenue in Thousand Oaks.
"They arrived and found a woman who was unresponsive, with serious injuries. Emergency personnel were unsuccessful with lifesaving measures and the woman was pronounced dead.
