The Ministry of Defence has stated Russian Private Military Company the Wagner Group is “expected to deploy more than 1,000 mercenaries”, including senior leaders, to carry out combat operations. Irpin has been one of the hotspots of fighting as it is only 12 miles from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv. The city has suffered intense bombardment and 60,000 residents have been forced to flee the area. On Monday, in a video on Telegram Oleksandr Markushyn, the city’s mayor said:“ We have good news today, Irpin has been liberated. “We understand that there will be more attacks on our city and we will defend it courageously.”

    Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are to resume at 10am local time (8am BST) at Istanbul’s  Dolmabahce Palace, this morning. 

    These will be the first in-person talks in over two weeks. 

    Ukraine has said t’s most ambitious objective is to secure a ceasefire.

    Vladimir Putin has deployed mercenaries to eastern Ukraine as the mayor of Irpin declares that the city has been freed from Russian control.

    The Ministry of Defence has stated Russian Private Military Company the Wagner Group is “expected to deploy more than 1,000 mercenaries”, including senior leaders, to carry out combat operations.

    Irpin has been one of the hotspots of fighting as it is only 12 miles from the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
