A memo banning government workers using the "Let's Go Brandon" trend that has gone viral is fake, officials claim.
The anti-Biden chant became a song and quickly rocketed to the top of the iTunes chart.
And now a number of Canadian civil servants have shared an image of a memo threatening they will be immediately sacked if they use the term "Let's go Brandon!."
The memo became viral but the Canadian federal government declines it has anything to do with it reports the National Post.
The memo was allegedly dated October 14 and it appears to have been sent by Shared Services Canada.
The letter reads: "This is a formal notification that all government correspondence must be professional in nature and approved by department heads.
"When applicable all correspondence must be vetted by the PMO for framing and message prior to public disclosure or internal distribution.
"The uses of colloquialisms or sayings with intended double meaning or offense are strictly prohibited in all means of correspondence and/or communication.
"Specifically, the use of the wording 'Let’s Go Brandon' and any variation thereof under any circumstance is banned by the Canadian Public Service.
"Please contact your department heads for the applicable writing references. We have been informed that this will be zero tolerance issue within the management structure this position is fully supported by the leadership of PSAC.
"Violation of this policy will be grounds for immediate dismissal without recourse or labor union participation."
However, the federal agency told the outlet in a statement that the memo is fake and that there is no specific restriction against the use of the term.
A Shared Services spokesperson said: "We can confirm this message was not issued by Shared Services Canada and it does not reflect departmental policy."
The "Let's go Brandon!" trend was started by NASCAR Racer Brandon Brown during an interview earlier this month.
In a clip of the interview, the crowd behind him is chanting "f*** Joe Biden" but the NBC reporter claimed the chant is "let's go Brandon."
The video went viral and thousands social media users created different memes with the phrase.
